Furniture by Yabette: Steampunk Style
Greetings, home decor aficionado! It is time again for a mini-retrospective of the amazing art furniture by Yabette! Swankety Swank was founded upon “Honoring Beauty, Earth and Age” and today we showcase three amazing Steampunk inspired pieces that do just that!
Steampunk ”is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes fictional works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used, usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain. It has prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy; and it often features anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them.”
This Dragon Cabinet commission is one of Yabette’s more recent pieces. The client wanted a clockwork dragon and boy, did Yabette deliver! Composed of gears and covered in rivets, this draconic guardian is sure to keep unwanted folks away from the liquor inside! Continue reading

Indie Artist Sidewalk Sale This Saturday!
This Saturday, come visit the Swankety Swank Sidewalk Sale to see work by amazing local independent artists! Be at 289 Divisadero at 11 o’clock am until 4 pm to immerse yourself in handcrafted art, fashion and more!
What kind of goodies can you expect? Allow me to introduce you to three of the best designers in San Francisco:
Maria Zhalnina has worked as an art director, designer and illustrator. She has art directed six magazines and created designs for other publications. Her illustrations have been used in books, magazines, and calendars, and she also works in fine arts in painting, graphics and installations.
The above sculpture is titled “Chechnya” and is from Zhalnina’s “Maps of the World” series.
Tiff Rojas of Wayward Shiftys makes magical clothes and accessories for everyday wear! Known for her quirky sense of style and a penchant for fun that rivals the faeries, Tiff’s designs are sure to enchant you! Try on one of her pointed hats or a frilly skirt!
Tiff models the coat she made for her Wayward Shifties clothing label. Tiff’s clothes are all one of a kind (and I mean that in the most literal and figurative senses), just the way we like it at Swankety Swank!
Artist Cara Tuckfelt works in printmaking, bookbinding, sculpture, and painting! She says “Printmaking helps me find my voice as an artist through mixing varied techniques and experimentation often to the point of aesthetic destruction…Aesthetically, my work is earthy, dark, and visually complicated, owing to the many trials, errors and countless hours spent on each piece.”
Also a bookbinder, Cara reveals, “Each book that I complete is an exploration and manifestation of my own technical abilities. The books that I choose to bind reflect their respective cultures and trace the evolution of bookbinding.”
After you meet these artists (and others!) whose goods will be along the sidewalk, be sure to come indoors to check out the new 2 women show, Perth: Something Hidden, showcasing the hauntingly beautiful paintings by Emily Lounsbury and the evocative pictorial compositions of Eartha L. Goodwin! We also have new clothing by DAS, gibbous and Zunique!
Voting for Visionaries!
Swankety Swank was created out of a desire to see hardworking visionaries thrive in supportive community. We believe in our artists, our neighborhoods and our city. We believe that in San Francisco you can make your dreams come true and we are not alone.
