Working on this collection and showing it on the sunny Castro walls of Sweet Inspiration has been a highly satisfactory experience. Most people do not close their successful retail shop to hole up in a studio to paint oils on canvas.
I did. I feel good about following my heart. This bold move has led me to many others, like unschooling my son, talking about ufo’s, and exploring Shamanic journeys. The truth is, life is too short to live for what everyone else thinks you should be doing. Having stepped out of my own box, I am living a kind of freedom I might have never known had I not taken steps continually towards it. The universe continues to support me in this endeavor, as I continue those steps in the freedom discovery tour that is currently my life!
The deliciousness of having an art show for the culmination of two years of oil painting at a place that features my favorite sumptuous treat is hard to surpass. I am pleased that my work is presented at Sweet Inspiration for this month of April, 2014. Join me for the Artist Reception from 4-7 on Sunday, April 13 at 2239 Market St. in the Castro neighborhood of SF.
Whether you are on a journey of healing, or simply need to improve the feng shui of your space, consider buying an original signed piece. Each one comes with an Authenticity Record of the sale and blessings for your support. If you cannot make the reception, the art will be hanging and available for purchase through the month of April, 2014 or browse the online shop here.
This was completed at the Lovethang Annual Picnic, and tonight, I’ll do a larger piece with The Rabbit Hole at Lil Redpresents in Akron, Ohio to be auctioned for children’s charity. Location: 60 S MAPLE ST, Akron, Ohio 44303.
Come join the dancers, the dreamers, the creators and lovers for a night of camaraderie, creativity and high frequency! xxooYabette
Today I had the pleasure of bringing the Lobster Claw and Crab Claw to Earth Fare for sale in the lovely art supporting community of Fairlawn, Ohio. The warm welcome and tender care in hanging my art by Helen and Dan was an experience in true highest joy. If you are in Akron over the next several weeks, do come in and shop at a full Earth integrity store with my ocean energy art enhanced by Doug Meyer‘s custom recycled metal frames on the walls. There are other artists work on display as well, and the fantastic, high window lighted, free wi-fi cafe makes it a gorgeous place to work and socialize. xxooYabette
I’ll admit right away that I have been quite biased towards wood. Building, refinishing, repairing, and beautifying wood has been my artful pastime for many years now. However, metal runs deep with my family lineage of steel workers, machinists, and builders, yet I rejected it as dirty, dangerous, and rough. While it IS all of those things, I am now embracing the grit and seeing the joys of metal. For me, it was coming home. Besides working in my literal home state of Ohio this summer, I recognized the smells of burning steel, the dirt, and the intense sweaty, grungy heat emanating from this place. I thought often of my Father long ago, coming home from work with black hands and curled metal chips embedded into the souls of his heavy, black work boots.
Of course my Father didn’t work for a creative master who admits he hails from the planet “Ooob” and plays The Orb remixed by Lee Scratch Perry on the sound system. In fact, an artist like myself would not have been welcome into my father’s production steel shop where parts for the industrial/military complex were produced. But there I was, part of the assembly line for Doug Meyer’s Rustbelt Rebirth creations. Offering me an opportunity to be a part of his East Coast Showcase booth at Brimfield, he created artful frames for my oil paintings that matched his fantastic, industrial furniture. Using recycled scrap metal, he and the crew fabricate his art deco inspired designs that fit into a beautifully modern and artful home, office or studio.
