Swankspirations

Bistro De Tour Eiffel ParisMy spirit could not be dampened by the rain, nor the stern look from the waitress insisting “We don’t do that here” upon my request for a container to take the remainder of that perfect creamy squash soup with me. It was the night before my birthday and I was in Paris! I had just wondered through the streets near 24 Rue Francois 1er and stared into the windows of the closed shops of Christian Dior, Chanel, Hermes and the like. While stopping there at Cafe’ Mode for an evening bite, I sketched the scene and water colored and inked it later. I’ll always remember my happy jaunt in the rain with my light jacket and umbrella, halting in emotional surprise when I came upon the watery night view of the Eiffel Tour lights.

This is THE dress of the fall season! The versatile design and medium density weight jersey works in many climates, seasons, and occasions from sophisticated black dress affair to sporty casual. This hemp and organic cotton jersey blend is cozy, yet allows the skin to breathe with its natural fibers. It is a smooth small ribbed knit that also has an easy stretch.

Our first Millenial Dress buyer gave this feedback after taking it on vacation to Amsterdam: “Got a lot of compliments in Amsterdam- wore it a lot, on a bike, in restaurants, all the time.”

On the Road to Upcycled Awesomeness in Ohio via NYC

I have been blessed this spring and summer with traveling… keeping flexibility, mystery, and adventure in my life. This is adding inspiration and expansiveness to my world in ways I had not even imagined.

Here’s the latest chosen art to leave my hands on the way, the chromodoris willani Nudibranch in oil, still available as a print, in its new home.

I was recently inspired as I visited a long time friend and artist, Doug Meyer in his mid-century abode, in the Cleveland area, which was full of his sophisticated, modern, industrial furniture creations. Doug and I both having grown up in the industrial “Rubber Capital of the World” Akron, Ohio, we have a common appreciation for the creative re-use of metal and wood.

Here’s his metal patchwork table circa 2009 in the Swankety Swank Grand Opening for the Divisadero Street shop window.
